Hospital, School & University Campus Safety recently published “5 Tips to Turn Your Staff into Better Communicators” from Anthony Celano’s “Streetwise Communication” courses. The classes teach core skills, such as verbal communication, corporate professionalism, customer service, sexual harassment and problem solving. Celano currently serves on the Advisory Board of the Caliber Training Institute in New York.

Liz Martinez, who writes extensively about retail fraud, was interviewed in March, 2006 for Fox Television’s “Inside Edition” as they focused a segment on retail refund/exchange scams. In April, Liz had a short story published by Akashic Books in a volume called “Manhattan Noir.” Her piece, titled: “Freddie Prinze Is My Guardian Angel,” was favorably reviewed by “Publishers Weekly.” The book is available from Amazon.com. Richard Wilson CPP, Area Security Director at Citigroup, renewed his certification this year.

ASIS NYC Chapter member Richard Wilson, Area Security Director for Citigroup, has recertified as Certified Protection Professional for the next three-year term beginning in 2006.

George R. Haskell, former Vice President, Security Operations and Director of Security for Radio City Music Hall, announced the formation of Haskell & Associates, providing services related to threat and vulnerability assessment, crisis management and security management strategies. "The world is in a heightened state of awareness about terrorism and security,” said Haskell, who has formed alliances with experienced field agents, skilled researchers and analysts nationwide. James F. McShane, Columbia University’s Associate Vice President for Public Safety, announced the appointment of Arty Storch as Director of Administration and Planning, and
Deidre Fuchs as Assistant Manager, Administrative Operations. Both Storch and Fuchs are former members NYPD.

After 18 years at John Jay College, long-time ASIS International NYC Chapter member, Bob Louden has accepted a position as Professor of Criminal Justice & Director of CJ Program at Georgian Court University in Lakewood, NJ. Robert Hopes, VP of FJC Security, retired from The New York Police Department and wrote an NYPD-based screenplay about 10 years ago. New Line Cinema picked it up screenplay and it is now being filmed in New York City. Titled “Pride and Glory”, the movie stars Colin Farrell and Edward Norton and will continue to shoot on location through June. Kevin P. Clark, recently Police Commissioner of the City of Baltimore, and a former Deputy Chief of the New York City Police Department, has joined Elite Investigations Ltd. as a senior executive.

Lawrence DeBlasio has joined Prudential Financial as director, asset protection and management. He is part of the team responsible for Prudential's domestic security operations, reporting to Eric Levine, Prudential's chief security officer, and Lori Hennon Bell, vice president, security operations. Prior to accepting his new assignment, Larry was an assistant vice president at the Bank of New York for six years, working for Chip Smith. Earlier in Larry's career he was with Chase Manhattan Bank and prior to that was in contract security management. Larry earned his BS at Stern School of Business and is a member of ASIS International's New York City Chapter.

Robert P. Woerner CPP, joined Ove Arup & Partners in February as a Senior Security Consultant, working with their security design team. Arup, whose projects include the new wing of the Denver Art Museum, has New York offices at 155 Avenue of the Americas. Robert can be reached at robertwoerner@ arup.com.


This April, Mike Eisenberg joined Guardian Service Industries Inc. and Guardian Security to head-up business development for the growing organization. Mike, formerly with Control Systems, is pictured above (r), with Brian Meagher, Guardian’s Controller.

Frank J. Santamorena PSP, who has been a consultant for, and featured performer in the Discovery Channel’s series: “It Takes A Thief” reports that the show is being renewed for a second season. During the first season, the production company shot 40 episodes in just a few months. This is an unusually large number of shows for a TV series, and a second season promises to be equally intense. Alan D. Bowles CPP, President/CEO of Bowles Corporate Services, Inc. (USA) announced his organization’s recent expansion outside the Northeast US, with offices in the United Kingdom in London, Aldershot and Peterborough. BCS also has offices in Nairobi, Kenya, and has been selected as consultant and security contractor by the government of Somalia. Congressman Peter King Honored by ASIS International’s Long Island Chapter The Long Island Chapter of ASIS International hosted their 2006 Person of the Year Dinner on Friday, February 24, 2006, honoring Congressman Peter T. King (R-3-NY). King is Chairman of the Congressional Homeland Security Committee. Michael Stack, Executive Director of ASIS International and Jack Lichtenstein, ASIS International Director of Public Affairs & Government Policy were also in attendance.

Fern Abbott, Chapter member and our ASIS NYC Chapter’s Expo Coordinator, announced that she will be the Director and Chief Instructor at AFI Security Training Institute in Metuchen, NJ beginning in late May or early June.
