Chairman's Message
Welcome to
another edition
of Security
Director Magazine
which provides
complete
coverage of our
very successful
2006 Trade
Show, made
possible by the
volunteer efforts of numerous chapter
members.
This issue also covers the annual golf
outing, another example of the chapter’s
successful volunteer efforts. The
New York City Chapter can be proud
of a long tradition of volunteerism
that has seen the chapter grow and
grow to the point where we have professional
quarterly magazine, an outstanding
website, an annual CPP
review course, the annual trade show
and the annual golf outing, just to
name our key events. We also recently
had a very successful free seminar, the
first of more to come, on counter terrorism
at the New York Athletic Club
that was “sold out,” and that attracted
so many last minute requests for seats
that we had standing room only.
Again, this was another example of
volunteerism on the part of chapter
members. As the Chapter continues to
grow and become involved in even
more special events, it is critical that
chapter members interested in volunteering
their time contact any member
of the board. We cannot continue to
be the best and largest chapter in the
world if we do not attract “new
blood.” The chapter has a number of
different committees, all listed in the
magazine and we welcome any members
interested in joining. This is an
excellent way to get involved in the
security industry and can also lead to
more senior ASIS positions at both the
Chapter and National levels.
As our editors have mentioned, we
are also looking for companies to
advertise in both the magazine and on
the website. So please consider supporting
the chapter and getting your
company products additional exposure.
And, finally, we seem to have
fewer People in the News stories this
quarter, so do share your successes
with our editors. They can get your
accomplishments into print. Thanks
again to all our members for their
continued support and I hope to
see you after the summer vacations at
our monthly gathering at Rosie’s.

On June 19, ASIS International's NYC
Chapter hosted a panel discussion
titled: "Masters of Counterterror" at
The New York Athletic Club. Attendees
heard from a senior Shin-Bet officer,
and three former: FBI, Mossad and
Port Authority NY/NJ officials.
Organized and introduced by Oksana
Farber, of ASIS's Law Enforcement
Liaison Council, and moderated by
Jack Lichtenstein, ASIS International's
Director of Government Affairs &
Public Policy, the presentation drew
over 200 Chapter members. It highlighted
a joint program between ASIS
and The Jewish Institute for National
Security Affairs (JINSA), promoting
a trip to Israel for private security
professionals to meet with Israeli
national law enforcement leaders. Ideally, participants can identify
security measures that may be applicable
in US industrial security settings.
Information about the JINSA program
is available from ASIS International
headquarters.
