Security 2006
New York City Chapter Hosts 16th Security & Systems Solutions Expo
A cloudy morning, about an hour
before the SECURITY SOLUTIONS
AND EXPO 2006 opened on May 9th
at Jacob Javits Convention Center,
there were already a few hundred
waiting in the north-end registration
area. This year we started the show
later, at 9:00AM, and there was steady
traffic down the escalator as ribbons
were cut and booths opened to receive
visitors.
In total, almost 4000 people registered
for the Show, with well over 1000
attending the “Person of the Year”
Luncheon honoring Judge Bridget C
Brennan, part of the full day’s events.
This year, afternoon exhibit hall attendance
was up significantly. Even our
ASIS International NYC Chapter’s
booth had a good quantity of people
getting detailed information about the
upcoming CPP Review Course for
October, and signing up for membership
on the spot.
Our morning seminar, The Future of
Video Technology, included presentations
from: Bron Mogenis, Business
Development Manager for Lockheed
Martin; Brian Smith, President of Digital
Surveillance Consultants, Inc., Tim
Meyerhoff of LGIris Inc., Ed Thompson
CTO of DVTEL, Steve Harper, VP
of Battery Park City Authority; and
Karla Kudatzky, Life Safety and Security
Director at EJ Minskoff Equities.
To get some background on the new
roles video can play in security,
please refer to the Show issue
of Security Director Magazine
that is on the website at
www.asisnyc.org.
For perspective we also have to
consider Steve D. Chupa’s comments
after the seminar. (Chupa
(on the ASIS Board of Directors
and Johnson & Johnson’s Security
Director, Worldwide Security
Group) reminded that we cannot
forsake traditional ‘on the ground’
security forces and procedures.
A glitch in electrical power or network/
internet service can paralyze information
from technology advances.
In overview, we thank the NYPD
cadets for their assistance with registration,
VIP arrivals, and helping
everyone process through the day’s
events smoothly. And, as is tradition
after 16 years, we especially thank the
many volunteers who make up ASIS
International NYC Chapter’s Trade
Show Committee. Without their tireless
work and
countless
hours of
preparation,
there wouldn’t
be a special
security
event that
everyone
looks forward
to attending
in the spring!
